How much? How much more are governments going to take from us? How many more fees, taxes, levies, tariffs and tolls are they going to impose before we are tapped out.
Ontarians are not getting richer. We’re not getting raises or salary bumps. In fact, many of my colleagues and acquaintances are seeing a decrease in their take home pay rather than make more. Yet, the government continues to try and take blood from a stone. It will drive (no pun intended) folks straight into the poor house. Remember, with less people driving into Downtown Toronto, that means that less people will be using the parking garages and parking spaces which means in time the price of those will go up and it will cost even more to go into Downtown Toronto and take in a show or sports event. Fun! Here’s Global’s report on this possibility.
Also, check out these two maps. One of Toronto, one of Cornwall.
They’re pretty similar. The biggest similarity is that both cities have two main arteries to get into the downtown core. Toronto has the DVP and the 427 that leads into the Gardiner Expressway. Cornwall has the Brookdale exit and McConnell exit. If this turns into a big money maker for the city of Toronto what’s to say that the City of Cornwall doesn’t do something similar. I know it’s a long shot but once there is a precedence set and revenue shortfalls, anything can happen.
Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. ~Bill
