During tomorrow night’s board meeting in Brockville, trustees with the Upper Canada School Board(UCDSB) will go over a massive report that highlights possible school closures that could in turn help increase provincial funding. The students that would be affected by the closures would then be moved to other area schools that have the space to accommodate them. Some of the closures could happen as early as June 2017.
According to the report there are roughly 10,000 empty spaces in combined schools in Eastern Ontario which dramatically decreases access to ministry funding.
While there are many Cornwall and SD&G schools named in this report, it is a proposal and not a done deal just yet. We`re sure there will be numerous public consultations before the final decision is made.
