Please don’t get me wrong. I am Canadian. I love hockey. I want Canada to win this tournament but I won’t be watching. I’m cringing just thinking about it let me tell you why.
If your favourite player gets hurt during the tournament, like Carey Price or Austin Matthews or Alex Ovetckin it will obviously affect the teams’ performance and not to mention fantasy teams around the country. Not cool for the player and fans.
#2 Money, Money, Money
There is nothing in this tourney for the players and their fans but bragging rights. The NHL stands to make millions of the tournament. They are always crying poor. Did someone forget that Las Vegas just ponied up $500,000 to have a team there. I didn’t. This just reeks of a money grab and turns me right off.
#3 How terrible is this trophy
Who wants to brag about winning a tournament where you would get to skate around the rink with this abomination. It didn’t look good 12 years ago and it’s worse somehow today. Guess what? You can keep it. I’ll check out some repeat episodes of Walking Dead instead.
Bonus Reason #4 The odds are stacked in Canada’s Favour
Why is this an issue? Well, as nice as it is to cheer Canada on, why bother when they are probably going to win. Like, it shouldn’t even be close. There might be a challenge with a couple of countries but Canada should walk over everyone. What fun is that.
If you’re watching, enjoy. I’ll be catching up on the new episodes of Gilmore Girls, thanks.
