As a young 7 year old hockey fan I remember the captain of the Cornwall Royals wearing number 11 and hoisting the Memorial Cup. As a matter of fact, my grandfather Gus Lebrun, was part owner then and left me his 1980 Memorial Cup ring. The captain was Marc Crawford.
I also remember Crow coaching the Royals before heading to the AHL and eventually the Quebec Nordiques of the NHL. I’ve been following his career for many moons. In 1995 Crawford became the youngest coach in NHL history to win the Jack Adams(coach of the year) and then followed that up with a Stanley Cup win in 1996. Crow brought the Cup to Cornwall.
He spends his summers here and married a local girl(Helene). He has always kept his connection to Cornwall over the years.
So, even as a staunch Habs fan I want to see him succeed in his associate coach role in Ottawa so a part of me will be rooting for the Sens this season. Plus, head coach Guy Boucher was part of the Habs family as Hamilton Bulldoges coach before making the jump to Tampa Bay a few years ago.
The only time I will root against Crow and his Sens now is when they play Montreal.
It was very surprising but fun to see the pic of Crow with me in foreground make its way into the Ottawa Sun and Le Journal de Montreal this week with his hiring.
Welcome back home and the NHL Marc, I wish you nothing but success and another head coaching gig down the road…maybe even in Montreal???
