This year’s NHL Playoffs, for me anyway, have been a bust. No Maple Leafs or any Canadian team for that matter. Line brawls where the violence between players could be deadly. The Philly fans pelting players and refs with a commemorative bracelet. Then this happened:
Like they said, you don’t have to be a lip reader to understand what Chicago’d Andre Shaw was saying. Now, what could have been another black eye for the NHL this post season has turned into the biggest positive to happen yet.
The NHL has suspended Andrew for one game, issued a $5000 fine and he will require to undergo sensitivity training. Someone was going to have to be the sacrificial lamb on this “far too late” rule but there is finally a precedent to punish those think it’s fine to use homophobic language to show everyone how tough you are.
Andrew has taken full responsible for his actions and apologized as well.
Good for Andrew and the NHL for taking actions to combat this on going problem. But, we have a long way to go. ~Bill
