but, rather his wonderful film career.
The legendary Pop Icon passed away after an 18 month battle with cancer on Sunday surrounded by his family. A cancer that was kept secret from the world. His name, his music and his legend will be remembered for years to come. For me though, it’s his acting that I will recount when speaking of him.
David Bowie’s single biggest role came at the hands of Muppet maker Jim Henson as Jareth the Goblin King in Labyrinth. I was mesmerized by Bowie’s performance and glad that any of the other rumoured musicians didn’t get the part. Up for the role as well as David was Mick Jagger, Prince, Michael Jackson and Sting. It would have been a much different movie had one of those artist gotten the role.
He also had a small but important role in the Christopher Nolan movie The Prestige playing inventor Nikola Tesla. Nolan wanted a scene stealer and he got in David Bowie.
He was also very funny as seen in the above clip on the TV show Extras playing himself opposite Ricky Gervais.
David Bowie will be remembered for more than his music. He will be remembered for being a tour de Force on the screen as well.
RIP David Bowie. ~Bill
