As a self proclaimed “beer nerd” you can imagine my excitement at the prospect of more options to find my treasures. I do however want to compliment both local LCBOs in Cornwall who have been great to their craft beer customers for a number of years already. My hope is that what the LCBO can’t get the more independent grocery chains can.
The province has named the chains that will be eligible to sell beer but have limited it to 60 locations to start next month. The chains here have stores like Farm Boy, Metro, Food Basics, Freshco and Walmart. The organizations now have to submit location names to province to get one of those 60 spots.
There are a few possibilities in Cornwall which could see brewskies on the shelf next month. The likeliest, in my opinion, is Farm Boy. They are always on the leading edge of more services or new product lines and such things.
We may also be on the outside looking in since there are only 60 spots to start but it will happen. The goal is to sell beer in over 400 locations eventually.
I know not everyone is excited about this new direction but I can assure you “beer nerds” like me are all pretty stoked.
