Fans of the boom Breakfast know that I (Bill) am not a fan of the National Anthem played before a regular season hockey. It has over the years, become a place for singer to butcher the songs and make fools of themselves. But, we were reminded on Saturday night as to why we started playing the anthem before these games. As tough as it is for me to say… Montreal did it right. Check out their tribute below.
The Chicago Blackhawks also did a tribute to the people who lost their lives in the Paris attack.
Toronto was playing the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday and the anthem singer sang O Canada entirely in French as a tribute to Paris and the victims of Friday’s attacks.
The Anthem started playing before sporting events back in the early 1940’s to show support for the troops from Canada and the U.S. fighting in WWII. It was amazing to hear the French National before the game and in this regard, it made sense to play it before the game. I still don’t need to hear ours or the American anthem before every regular season game. But that’s just my opinion. ~Bill
