As a proud Sudburian, born and raised, I can tell you that the Stompin’ Tom Connors song “Sudbury Saturday Night” is as iconic as it gets. And the man that wrote, performed and made the song famous is as endearing as his work. I can’t think of a more appropriate statue to have in front of our down town arena than the man who has helped keep our city on the lips of the country.
Some of the lyrics have a few people up in arms saying it’s degrading to Sudburians and that the statue is unwarranted but for those of us who grew up in the shadow of INCO, the song is fun and meant to show how we blew a little steam off back in the day.
