If you’re from here like me you’ve heard this over and over. Simply put it’s bullsh*t. I don’t buy it. We just finished a summer full of traditional festivals where pretty much every weekend could be booked for an affordable family outing. Whether or not it’s a family outing, athletic event or simply looking for something entertaining there is more often than not something to do.
This past weekend saw the who’s-who of curling decend on Cornwall for the Shorty Jenkins Classic at the Cornwall Curling Centre. This was a world class event right in our own backyard which saw Brad Gushue defeat Glen Howard in extra ends in the final!
If you’re into something different there was Kumite Kickboxing over at the Nav Centre on Saturday evening that saw our local World Kickboxing Champion Emily Vallance in the ring for the first time in her hometown along with 7 other great fights.
Maybe you’re more into music…no problem. Saturday night at Aultsville Theatre former Great Big Sea member Sean McCann performed with local artist Graham Greer. By all accounts they put on quite the show and entertained to the highest degree. Again in our own backyard.
These are just a few examples from one weekend around here. I could go on-and-on about what you might have missed over the summer.
Next up tomorrow through Saturday is the International Plowing Match(IPM) in Finch. Don’t let the name fool you. This massive event is not just for the agriculture community. It’s also for anglers, hunters, families, schools and more. There more that just one something for everyone. People will regret missing out on the opportunity to experience this tent city and all its offerings from cooking shows, live entertainment, actual plowing matches to many more things that will tickle you’re fancy you’ve never experiences until you go. The city even has a free shuttle for ticket holders to get out there and enjoy.
So, save me the whole “there’s nothing to do” speech around here, you’re just not looking hard enough.
See you at the IPM right?
