We all are connected to cancer in some way. You’re either a survivor, a family members has it, you lost a family member, a friend has it, you lost a friend to it…these scenarios go on and on and there are far too many for any of our liking.
Enter 9 year old Madison Primeau to offer us some hope. This young energetic cancer survivor is full of life today despite going through a massive fight for her life versus this terrible disease. Many people rallied around her and her family when they were in the thick of it and prayed, hoped and organized fundraisers and other events to help the family cope with their situation.
I read this status update from Madison’s father Denis yesterday…
“Just back from CHEO for our 180+ appointment post treatment and got the great news that Madison is still cancer free. Also want to thank everyone for all the kind words, much appreciated. Xoxo”
I’m not gonna lie I cried a bit reading this and they were tears of joy. The joy comes from knowing that there is hope, we can overcome this terrible disease. We won’t all win the fight but these moments give us the strength and courage to put our fists up and take on cancer head-to-head. This youngster is more than just a survivor, she is an inspiration.
I lost my dad to cancer last November and vowed to help in the fight to find a cure and better treatment and these stories of survival help keep me steadfast in my quest to try and make a difference.
I make donations, I volunteer my time and recently set up a fundraiser for the Cornwall Hospital Foundation later this month to help raise funds for chemo treatment right here in Cornwall.
As Madison grows up she will realize at some point how her story helps others cope and fight despite the setbacks and those we lose in their fight. For now she’s just a little girl living life to the fullest after taking down a giant. Taking on each day as it comes in the life of a regular kid.
I also want to acknowledge her parents, Denis and Shelley, for their love and perseverance through those dark days. You both are shining examples of what unconditional love is and will no doubt serve as inspiration to other moms and dads who have to go through similar times.
Words are not enough to thank everyone involved with Team Madison and the countless volunteers and donors to her cause.
I always say we take care of our own and here is one huge example of just that. Let’s keep this theme going and leave nobody behind.
