When it comes to fundraisers in our neck of the woods our community spirit and generosity comes alive and this past Saturday was no exception. I attended two events that served as a reminder why Cornwall is not just a great place to live but outstanding people live here and give of themselves tirelessly.
My first stop was Bikers Against Brain Cancer and it was my first ever motorcycle rally. The Kinsmen Club was there support one of their brothers in Paul Poirier. The Kin were making pancakes and sausage to feed the riders for their trek to Ormstown, Quebec. This year’s event champion was 6 year of Mya who is currently battling the terrible disease, but you couldn’t tell Saturday with the huge smile on her face. Roughly 100 riders took part and a small army of volunteers help keep things organized. While the bikes were out the scene for the post ride pig roast and concert at La Maison were happening. Congrats to the entire organizing committee on a great event, can’t wait for next year.
Next up was Denim & Diamonds at the Nav Centre in support of the Cornwall Hospital Foundation. The 3rd annual event out on the patio was sold out and everyone had a blast. The evening has various food stations set up so you can sample many great eats and some signature drinks to help wash it all down. There is a live band during the meal portion of the evening and the a DJ takes over after dark to keep the party going. The highlight of the evening is when all 300 plus people simultaneously light their sparklers and light up the night.
Another weekend in the books with a couple more great events that raised money for important causes with our community spirit, pride and generosity taking center stage. We definitely know how to have a good time while helping various important causes.
Again, we live in a great city, with great people doing great things. I’m proud to call this area home.
