As announced, the 21st edition of Cornwall Lift Off is grounded. As sad as it is, there’s a good chance that Lift-Off will never get off the ground but rather than be sullen, let’s celebrate.
I’ve been in Cornwall for 3 Lift-Offs and I have some amazing memories. The crowds, the friends, the artists. All have a place in my heart when it comes to Lift-Off. Like last year when we took the largest selfie in Cornwall history. Remember:
Thanks to Jason Setnyk for taking that shot. It’s one of my favourites.
Of course, there`s the artists I`ve met. Like:
Lou Gramm of Foreigner
Alan Frew of Glass Tiger
And catching up with Small Town Pistols, AKA The Wilkinsons, Amanda and Tyler.
No one can forget Curly Q from Dairy Queen.
And I`ll never for get my first Balloon ride. Amazing.
But it was a moment I was able to afford my Mom that gives me my favourite moment of Lift-Off.
My first Lift-Off was in 2012 and one of the headliners was a member of one of my Mom`s favourite bands growing up, The Guess Who. Burton Cummings put on a show for nearly 2 hours that neither I nor my Mom will soon forget.
Then, after the show, I gave my Mom the opportunity to meet the man himself. He was gracious, humble and extremely grateful to meet each and every fan, including my Mom. I pretty sure she was excited as well.
Please feel free to share your memories of 20 years of Lift-Off. ~Bill
