37 year old Mike Scott is a father, husband, brother, friend and co-worker who is also right now, in the fight for his life. It didn’t take long after I heard some rumbling things weren’t good for some social media posts to come up and shed some light on just how serious this situation is. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Tia and their two teenage daughters.
Mike is currently at the Heart Institute in Ottawa awaiting a heart transplant. No word on when that will happen but we know even after that it will be months before he can leave the hospital while he recovers.
Not surprisingly there is already a facebook page dedicated to help the family called Hugs for Mike and Tia Scott. The group has set up a couple of events and even an account where donations can be made (see below) to help offset the cost of travel to Ottawa, parking and other miscellaneous costs of caring for someone being treated out of town.
I recently, last November, went through just a couple of weeks of staying in and commuting from Ottawa while my father was in the fight for his life. I know first hand the cost of travel, hotels, food and lost income due to missing work involved. My situation only lasted two weeks before my father lost his battle with cancer. Right now, the Scott’s still have hope and an entire community behind them as well as weeks of rehab and treatments. We have them in our thoughts and prayers, but we can also help with a few dollars to the cause to make sure Mike is surrounded by the love and positivtity he needs right now. Family support is paramount at this difficult time and we as a community can help ensure that cost never stops them from being there full time to get him through this.
It may not seem like much from the outside looking in when you spare a couple of dollars in donations in their two accounts that are set up, or support a local fundraiser for the family but it make a world of difference to them. We all want to do more, but the truth is, his family and closest friends are who he needs and we can help make sure there is always someone by his side to encourage him every step of the way.
I hope you can take a moment and follow the link and support the Scott family today or support one of the numerous fundraisers being organized.
