Politics is and old man’s game. At least that’s the perception by most people out there. Of course it’s not true. But for most people, perception is reality. That’s why it seems the people with the most lawn signs (or at the very least the person with the flashiest ones) are the most electable candidates. When you think about it rationally that makes no sense but while your driving around town and see those signs.. you think… hmmm… I’ll bet they get elected. Just look at their sign.
But I digress.
Most candidates will tell you how they think they can help increase voter turn out or get out the “Youth Vote”. Truth be told, there is only one sure way to get more people to vote on election day.
Put voting online.
Make it so that voters can use their smartphones, laptops, tablets or home computer and have their say.
The big question on politicians mind with this solution is what if the majority of people who don’t vote wouldn’t vote for me. In other words, would the major left or right parties still get the majority of votes to keep power respectively. My guess is that these mainstream parties don’t pursue on line voting for fear of having fringe parties get those votes they did not. Then they wouldn’t be fringe parties for much longer.
What do you think?
