The boom breakfast had the pleasure of a private tour and sampling at Bar Brutus in Montreal last week and it’s safe to say they will be back. The premise of the bar, on rue Beaubien off of St-Denis, is that all but one or two menu items includes bacon and a few of the adult beverages also have bacon infused vodka. Have your road trip planned yet?
Check out this quick video tour and sampling with Head Chef JF and you will soon start mapping out your route to Bar Brutus…trust us.
The bacon sushi was absolutely amazing and had both the bacon lover’s flavours as well as the same texture as real sushi, well played Brutus. The bacon sausage, that’s 100% bacon sausage, was surprisingly very light and easy to eat since there isn’t a ton of filler. This is a must order for the bacon enthusiast. Finally we tried the Jager poutine. I have 3 letters for that…OMG! The gravy is made with Jager and they cook the onions in it too. Yes the cheese is curds and there is also bacon, c’mon this is Brutus!
The drinks are worth the trip too. Make sure you bring a “DD”, this is a bar after all. The pork soda (pictured above) is bar lime mix, bacon vodka and soda garnished with a strip of real bacon and it’s deeeeeelish! The icing on the beverage cake is the Bloody Brutus. It’s a classic Ceasar but done with the Brutus flare. They have their own blend of spices, of course bacon vodka, clamatto, various Tabasco sauces and they rim the glass with a blend of celery salt and Montreal steak spice. They then garnish it with a real bacon rose to seduce you into even more bacon love.
Our pal JF tells us every week they go through an average of 200kg of bacon, that’s about 10 pigs!! On a Friday or Saturday night they serve on average 100 Jager poutines which is no surprise.
Finally, we hope you go and visit to experience this bacon utopia for yourself. A word of warning though, get there early since there are sometime 2 hour long lineups. When you’re there tell them the boom breakfast sent ya and bring us back some bacon sushi please.
