Over the weekend I witnessed determination at two different age levels but both were equal in vigor. Age… was not a factor.
First, my little guy, who is four, is learning to ride his bike. Several times, while riding up and down our street, he ditched the bike in the … well… ditch. But, he never let that stop him from doing his new favorite thing, bike riding. he learned quick to get off the bike and get it back on to the road so that he could keep riding.
He’s getting pretty good too.
Then there is my next door neighbour (lets call him “O” because I didn’t tell him I was writing this) O who turns 81 very soon. He neede my help to get a couch out of his house so that a new one could be brought in later this week. Of course I lend a hand but alas, the couch wouldn’t come out of the house with any ease. “No problem” says O, “I’ve got a solution”. he came back 2 minutes later with his chain saw.
81 and slicing up a couch to get it out the door. Which we did 10 minutes later after he sawed that thing in half. Way to go O!
Whether your a toddler or a newly minted octogenarian, determination to get the job done is always there. We just have to reconnect with it once in awhile. Here’s to hoping you never lose yours.
