You know what I like? Baseball. You know what I don’t like? Teams that suck at baseball. And this message is directed at one of those teams – the Toronto Blue Jays. Are you even freaking kidding me? You were supposed to be good! This was supposed to be THE YEAR!
I remember when the Blue Jays were good. I was 9 or 10 years old. Ms. Brigham was my teacher and cross country coach, I had a severe crush on Lauren Philp (a crush that would last until high school), and I would sit in front of the TV each night wearing my glove and watch the Jays played. I don’t know why i wore my glove. Maybe I thought that the ball would somehow go through the screen and I would be able to catch it. But, I loved those Jays teams.
But that was it. That was the last time the Jays were good. The next year was the strike and then the Jays have never made it back to the postseason. They have never made it back to the postseason! I know I wrote that twice. It’s been 20 years and we are still waiting. And man, it is getting depressing.
I used to live in a crazy baseball town in Korea. The team’s name was the Lotte Giants.
But the great thing about baseball in Korea is that it doesn’t really matter if the team is good or not. Just going to the game is an experience in itself – regardless of how your team does. How does a $7 lower level ticket sound? How does having the freedom to bring in your own food and ALCOHOL sound? How do cheerleaders sound? It sounds fantastic – and it is!
Now that is a baseball experience. In closing, Blue Jays – you suck! But I still love you…..
